We nearly ended up cancelling Jenson’s birthday party with hours to spare this year due to a slapped cheek false alarm. Fortunately we were able to go ahead and Jenson had a great time. We booked Jump with Jo*, a local business offering soft play sessions and parties and invited a few of Jenson’s friends. He’s come so far since his last party, where he was overwhelmed by the amount of people and just wanted to hang out somewhere quiet.
I headed up an hour before the guests were due to arrive to decorate (Bing style!) and set out the food. I was so excited for him to arrive as I knew he’d love the set-up. A couple of his friends had booked Jo for their parties too and he didn’t want to leave the last one. The look on his face when he arrived was worth every penny and then some. There was a bouncy castle, ball pit, car, scuttle bug and more.
The bouncy castle went down well with kids of all ages – even my bestie’s fella and mum! Turns out you’re never too old for a soft play party.
Jenson would have happily spent the whole day in the car but couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to jump into the ball pit. The kid just loves throwing himself off things.
I didn’t want the pressure of having to feed everyone at lunchtime (#sorrynotsorry) and scheduled the party for 2-4pm, putting out some of Jenson’s favourite foods as snacks: pizza, prawn crackers, sausage rolls and strawberries. His aunt also made a batch of Justice League cupcakes. I couldn’t be arsed with party bags (#badmum) so bought all the kiddos a Kinder Egg. At least it kept with the theme of food Jenson likes. The kid’s obsessed with chocolate eggs.
I also couldn’t be arsed to make my own failed attempt at a cake (are you sensing a theme here?!) and bought Jenson a chocolate bear cake from Sainsury’s. He loved it. When I brought the cake out for him to blow out the candles he sang happy birthday to himself. Cute!
Jenson had such an awesome birthday party and didn’t want to leave. We used the Penzance Cricket Club and when we went back up the next day to watch his uncle play he was so disappointed to see that it wasn’t still his party. I think we did good!
I’m also pleased to see that our booking helped Jo finally find a venue for her sessions in Penzance. She currently runs sessions in Hayle and Helston, which are a bit too far out for us. Word on the street is there may be some messy play sessions starting soon. Sign us up!
