Yep, you read that right. Spontaneous! If you spend much time with me ‘in real life’ you’ll know that I need an itinerary for every day – it drives the boyfriend crazy. We had this week booked off work (well, he did, I had to go in on Tuesday and Wednesday because I had some pre-planned meetings, etc) to sort out the baby’s room but that went a bit tits up when we found at last weekend that we’ll be moving house before the baby is born. Yay! So a week of plans became a week of house hunting, which in fact only lasted a day (long story short – we’ve found a lovely house across the road from the beach and will be moving early April), so the week suddenly became freed up! What’s a girl to do?
We had to pop to St Ives on Monday anyways because the boyfriend hasn’t switched doctors (nearly two years after moving last time – yep, we’re about to move into our fourth house in four years!). Baby belly soon took over so we stayed a while longer for something to eat and fun and games. It was a nice sunny day but I didn’t fancy wandering around with sausage and chips with all the seagulls swarming about so we looked for somewhere with a view – enter The Balcony. It’s above the gallery and an ice cream shop (how convenient) and right next door to the arcade – everything you could possibly want all in one place!
They made a classic burger and chips super yummy (I’ll be doing my chips with rosemary and sea salt from now on) and I treated myself to a virgin mojito. The last time I had a virgin cocktail it was full of ice and had three gulps in it. This was a huge glass stuffed with enough lime and mint and sooo tasty – definitely worth the £3.
It’s a really lovely restaurant, decked out with high tables and stools by the window (amazing view), sofas and surfboards and with a chilled out vibe. St Ives was pretty busy as it’s half term but The Balcony wasn’t completely packed which was nice.
If you’re walking on a beach and it’s a sunny day, you’ve gotta have ice cream, right? I was still pretty full from the huge burger so we played some games in the arcade first (I kicked bootay at air hockey but sucked at Mario Kart). Jus’ Desserts have an incredible selection of flavours which I managed to whittle down to two (I didn’t think I could handle three) – apple pie and clotted cream with lemon meringue. It was sooo good – there were little meringue bits in the ice cream it even tasted like pie crust. Plus I could pick a free topping – always rainbow sprinkles!
In case you’re concerned for my mental health and want to check I had plans for the rest of the week, Thursday was spent picking up a shit load of secondhand baby clothes and pregnancy yoga, we had our fourth antenatal class yesterday (more on that in next week’s Bump Watch post) and this weekend was looking like a free for all when I scheduled this post. Hopefully the sun will make a reappearance and we can go out and take some photos or something.
If you’ve had the pleasure of half term this week, I hope you’ve had a good ‘un!
