It’s official, today’s the first day of autumn! I’ve already been walking over crunchy leaves and donning warmer tops for a couple of weeks but now summer is well and truly over. In last week’s Sunday Snapshot I shared my autumn bucket list but I wanted to talk a bit more about the things I’m looking forward to this autumn. As much as I love summer, especially in Cornwall, I think autumn is my favourite season.
1. Building dens. We’re moving house next week (I know, we only moved last year!) and the movers dropped off a load of boxes on Monday – hello, den time! While I was at work, Luke made Jenson an awesome den and he played in it for hours. It was the cutest thing. I’m hoping we can do a lot more of that once we’re settled in the new house. Speaking of which…
2. Settling in to our new home. We said this last time we moved but we’re really hoping this is going to be a long-term thing and we’ll stay a good few years. Although this is the home we brought Jenson home to when we left the hospital, hopefully this will be the home he will grow up in.
3. Pumpkins. Jenson is going to be a lot more aware of what’s going on this Halloween and there’s loads I want to do with him, starting with going to a pumpkin patch and picking out his first pumpkin. When we get it home, I want to do a sort of pumpkin smash photo shoot, with him pulling out all the messy bits, and, get this, Luke has never carved a pumpkin! So he’s on pumpkin carving duty. We’ll probably get two so Jenson can make a mess with one and we can carve the other one and put it on our new front door step.
4. Halloween. I’m going to get Jenson a costume this year and hopefully there will be a fun toddler group/party he can go to with his friends.
5. Fireworks. I’m pretty sure that we’ll be able to see some pretty epic fireworks from the balcony of our new home so hopefully we can see a display without freezing our arses off waiting around. In fact, Jenson can watch them in his PJs and sleeping bag and go right to bed after. Bonus!
6. Splashing in puddles. Jenson is walking loads around the house so hopefully in a month or two we can get some wellies on and go out and splash in some puddles.
7. Cosy nights in. I know it makes us sound boring but we love staying in and just watching something fun together. Autumn is the perfect excuse – darker evenings, digging out all the blankets, hot chocolate… I’m fully embracing hygge! If only we can get Jenson to go to bed before 8.45pm. We’ve still got Stranger Things and season 2 of Daredevil to watch!
8. Festive coffee cups. Yep, I’m one of those people who makes excuses to go in Costa and Starbucks as soon as the fun cups come out. And photographs every single one.
9. My birthday. I hit the big 2-9 at the end of November and we’ve got our first night away from Jenson planned – we’re reviewing a night at a local fancy hotel! So excited!
10. Counting down to Christmas. Just a few years back I started counting down from about 100 sleeps but now I just count down from my birthday. I’m looking forward to doing more with Jenson too, like taking him to see Santa and the Mousehole Lights. I’m definitely of the opinion that Christmas is about more than just one day, especially as the office is closed for a week or two. Ooh, the more I type about it the more I’m looking forward to it already!
