Friday Favourites #29

Happy new year and all that jazz! Hope the year has been kind to you so far, what with the return to work and freezing cold weather and all. Getting up before 7am again has definitely been a shock to the system, especially as Jenson is better at sleeping in these days. In fact, his sleeping pattern is one of this week’s Favourite Things.

1. Jenson’s lack of naps. Yep, lack of naps was a good thing this week! The first day he didn’t nap he was in bed by 7.30pm! I managed to write and schedule four days worth of blog posts – amazing! Then the next day he was in bed by 8.45pm and because I was so ahead of myself with posts I was able to catch up on some blog admin – note my stats for the last few months, make a list of Twitter chats, schedule some tweets… It felt pretty amazing. Then he went back to late naps and late nights. Swings and roundabouts!

2. Dawn French. On New Year’s Eve I stayed in (obvs) and watched Dawn French’s 30 Million Minutes on BBC Four. It’s a recording of her latest show which I missed when it was at the Hall for Cornwall. It was a bleddy good job I didn’t go because I would have been a wreck! It’s a really powerful performance where she talks about her life. In fact, I’d be interested in reading a follow-up book on similar themes. She talks about growing up, life in Cornwall, her family – and some of it is really tough and moving stuff, battling fertility and the loss of loved ones. She’s quite a woman! I really do recommend checking it out on iPlayer.

3. Rogue One. We finally went to see Rogue One on Monday – sort of a celebrating the last day of freedom thing. Our local does two for one tickets on a Monday and as it’s my mum’s day off (best babysitter ever), I was tempted to do a triple whammy of Moana, Rogue One and Passengers, with pizza to top it off, but Luke thought it would have been overkill. Anyhoo, I liked Rogue One; enough for it to make my Friday Favourites anyway. I thought it took a while to get going but once the whole ensemble cast was on board it really picked up for me. Plus it’s always great to see a woman leading an action film!

4. New year reading. I think I mentioned before that I’m signed up for a few blog tours this month – plenty of new reading material. I’ve read two already and they didn’t disappoint. I think the first review is going up next week, so keep your peepers peeled.

5. Fun food. I couldn’t resist these alphabet potato shapes when I spotted them in Iceland – neither could Jenson, it seems! It was a bugger going through a whole new pack to find the right letters though.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. My exciting plans include finally taking our tree down! Joy.

There’s still time to enter my new year giveaway. It closes midnight Saturday 7 January.
