Yesterday I visited what is quite possibly the most wonderful place in Cornwall – Curiouser Creations*.
Rebecca Olver has really upped the game when it comes to quirky coffee shops with this Alice in Wonderland themed cafe. The attention to detail with the decor and cakes is incredible – and the coffee’s pretty damn good too!
She worked painstakingly hard at all hours leading up to the shop’s grand opening last weekend and it was worth every second. I spent over an hour in the cafe yesterday afternoon, chatting to Rebecca over coffee and cake (as you do!), and I kept noticing different details – toadstools poking out of the leaves, cards hanging from the ceiling, the Mad Hatter’s hat hooked over a chair… Even the teapots are cool AF, with a white rabbit teapot wearing a knitted jumper. Cute!
The smoking caterpillar is my favourite – and she made him herself!
Customers can choose from a range of tea, coffee and hot chocolate – and some rather epic cupcakes. You can even treat yourself to a huge afternoon tea – £30 serves two with plenty to take home for later. You can also book in for a special occasion, with plenty of hens already booked in.
And that’s not all – the cafe is a side business as Rebecca also creates incredible cakes for special occasions. Having made a cake for her friend’s Corpse Bride-themed wedding (I know, right!), she was encouraged to set up her own cake business. You can find out more here. As a huge Alice fan since she was a child, she decided to create her own Wonderland and it really is such a beautiful and inspiring place to visit.
You can find Curiouser Creations at 44a Fore Street, Redruth.
Keep your peepers peeled cos I might have a cheeky giveaway lined up for A Cornish Geek’s birthday week…
*I approached the owner for this review and was treated to a coffee and cupcake while I was there. I highly recommend the Mad Hatter’s lemon and orange cupcake.
