My gosh, this gorgeous weather just keeps on going, doesn’t it?! Last weekend was the nicest Mazey weekend I’ve seen for a while and I even explored some of the festivities with Jenson. And I spent the day on the beach, all in the name of work. Can’t complain! Here’s a look back at what I’ve been loving this week.
Mazey Day and Quay Day
As I mentioned, we partook in the fabulous Cornish celebrations. Jenson isn’t normally a fan of loud noises, crowds and strangers, so I thought about giving it a miss again, but when the band passed by our house he loved it, so we gave it a whirl. He kept asking for more dancing!
I can’t help but feel like the festival isn’t what it used to be. I don’t know if that’s nostalgia kicking in or what but there used to be stalls packing both sides of the high street and you couldn’t move through the crowds; it seems somewhat subdued these days. It certainly helps Jenson though.
Yes, I’m that weirdo who asks to photograph strangers’ dogs…
We went down to Quay Day too but as we were on the prom Jenson just wanted to walk across and look at the trains. At least he’s easily pleased – and a nerd after my own heart! He had a go on his first fair ride though – he cried because he didn’t want to get off.
It was so hot that we had to go home and play with the water outside. We don’t have a garden so a washing up bowl and bath toys on the balcony do the trick.
I had an extended commute this week due to roadworks, so I was able to read more than usual. My phone has also been off for repair, so I’ve not had the typical smartphone distractions. I have to admit, I hate it! It’s embarassing how much I rely on it. It’s been gone for seven and a half days, not that I’m counting… This week I read A Room of One’s Own, Surprise Me (not-so-feminist) and Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions. And I’ve got a cracking TBR for July, thanks to the lovely publicity teams at Virago Press and Quercus, plus my library reservations.
Every summer we have an out of office team day and this year we spent it on the beach. We started with a beach clean followed by an afternoon to chill out and it was pretty bleddy lovely. I’ve been carrying my camera around with me while my phone is out of action and took a few pics – they don’t call it Falifornia for nothing! I highly recommend the ice creams at Swanpool Beach.
And I think that’s all folks! I’ve been falling asleep with Jenson a lot again these days so there’s not been much to report film/TV-wise (just started season 12 of Grey’s) and I’m way overdue a couple of cocktails. I’m hoping to catch a few events at the Penzance Literary Festival next week – maybe there will be wine!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend :)
