A few of my favourite things #70

And just like that, Christmas is over for another year. Actually, I refuse to accept that it’s over just yet, as I’m not back in the office until Wednesday, so I’m still enjoying this wonderfully peaceful time. Here’s a look at a few highlights from my Christmas break so far.

The magic of Christmas

This has easily been my favourite Christmas to date. Jenson is at that perfect age where he believes in the magic of Christmas and he’s been so grateful for everything he’s received. His face when he walked into the living room on Christmas morning, and when he opened his Paw Patrol Lookout Tower, was the highlight for me. We have so many pictures and videos of his excitement through the day. He does the cutest happy wiggle/dance when he really loves something and I just want to treasure moments like that forever.

Christmas gifts perfect for A Cornish Geek

You know all those hashtag blessed posts you get sick of seeing at this time of year? Well, I really am so flippin’ lucky to have had loads of wonderful gifts left under my tree and I thought I’d share a few of them with you.

Yep, I now have all of the #Matilda30 editions! My bookshelves look sexy as hell right now. Plus I received some gorgeous bookish accessories, including a hellah cute book sleeve.

This hand lettering book is one of my favourite gifts and I can’t wait to get started. You can follow my adventures on my Stories.

Me time

I actually took some proper time for myself earlier this week. I was determined to have the whole week away from the blog to relax and catch up on my Netflix list. I managed four days. But in that time I’ve watched The Christmas Chronicles (a few times – thanks, Jenson!), Logan (wowzers!), fell asleep watching A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (nowhere near as good as the first) and even managed a long bath and a lie in.

A surprisingly sunny day

I’m a planner, so it’s not like us to have a spontaneous family day. When Luke spotted a B&M bargain online we decided to head out to the shops earlier this week to have a closer look and so that Jenson could browse the toy sales with his Christmas money. There was a bit of a wait for the bus and it was such a lovely sunny day that we decided to walk the coastal path. I love it when a day totally surprises you. We had a nice family lunch, Luke got a new chair, Jenson got (even more) new toys and it was pretty bleddy perfect.

Santa left some money in my stocking and I couldn’t resits (even more) new books. These two are a great way to kick off my girl power reading resolutions.

An Instagram milestone

I’m a big believer in celebrating achievements, especially something I’ve been working towards all year. I finally hit 1,000 Instagram followers this week! I might have dropped a couple since but I’m confident it’ll pick up again.

I know it’s not all about the numbers but, as someone who works in marketing by day, I’m a bit of a stats addict. I was so pleased yesterday to have another win – I posted about my 2019 TBR and reading resolutions and in less than 24 hours it became my most viewed post of the month, with more views than any of my 12 Days of Christmas giveaway posts. I’ve really enjoyed honing my niche as a book and stationery blogger this year and I love being part of a community of bookworms.

And, despite December typically being a quiet month views-wise, this month I’ve had my highest total views for a single month ever. Surprised yet proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.

With three more days of freedom (at the time of writing this post), I’ve got a fair bit to squeeze in, including setting up my new bujo and finally watching Dumplin’. I’m also being all kinds of sociable and have a couple of cinema dates booked in, so I’ll tell you all about those next week.
