A few of my favourite things #77

The way I’m going lately, I think I might need to rename this series: ‘books I added to my TBR this week’. It’s been another bookish week, not that that’s ever a bad thing. Here’s a look at the highlights.

New library books

I’ve been trying not to reserve too many books, as my TBR is getting a bit out of control and I can’t keep renewing, especially when other people are on the reserve list. Instead, I’m focusing on the books which everyone is talking about. I have severe bookish FOMO. Plus these normally have long wait lists, so it’s a nice surprise when a book is ready for collection.

Up this week is Sally Rooney’s award-winning Normal People and We Are Displaced by Malala Yousafzai. The Displaced was one of my favourite books last year and I’m pleased to see similar titles this year. I also managed to get a copy of I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella, right after release.

Galentines Day

We’ve not celebrated Valentine’s Day for a few years but Dom gave me some lovely treats ❤ My I Owe You One reservation also came through on Valentine’s Day – lots of lovely goodies.

Galentines Day 2019

Last year the magnolias and blossoms started blooming, only to be destroyed by snow. Snow came to all of Cornwall except Penzance a couple of weeks ago so maybe this is officially spring? Although we had snow late Feb/early March last year, so who knows?

Spring 2019

We embraced the sunshine when we picked Jenson up from nursery the other day. We headed to the park and went to the arcade on the way home – he was a very happy bunny.

Joanie sent me their bleddy fabulous stationery tee and I’m so excited to wear it to this year’s Stationery Show. If you’re as in love with it as I am, you might be interested to know there’s 25% off at the mo!

I also received some epic review copies from Abrams + Chronicle: a TBR book journal and another stunning book about badass women, this time focusing on rulers. History just got cool! Full review posts coming soon.

Guilty pleasures

Sophie Kinsella is one of my guilty pleasures – I’m a sucker for her chick lit. Something else you may not know I have a somewhat secret love of is Jackie Chan films.

I’m a bit of a judgemental bitch, so I used to avoid his films without knowing much about them. Then I saw New Police Story and it became one of my all-time favourite films. Now one of my favourite things to do is watch a Jackie Chan film with Luke.

The other day we sat down for a rare film night and watched Bleeding Steel. I have to say, it’s not like any of his other films and I’m still not sure what we actually watched! It was weird and wonderful.

I’ve already got our next film lined up. We’re big fans of Taika Waititi (Flight of the Conchords, Eagle vs Shark, Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) and The Breaker Uppers looks fucking awesome. He Exec Produced this film, written and directed by its female stars. Have you seen it yet?

I wonder what new delights next week will bring…

  1. I love this series, it’s so eclectic and fun to read! You got some great Valentine’s gifts, and everything is so pretty. The new Sophie Kinsella book looks amazing, and chick lit is one of my favourite book genres. I liked your thoughts on library books as I’m trying to simplify my reading routine too. I want to get back into watching films as well as music albums, I find it fun to chat about them through blogging. Spring is in the air, and it’s nice to see the early daffodils pop up. 🙂 xx
