A few of my favourite things #100

Last week was probably my favourite week of the summer because I was able to do loads of exciting things with Jenson. I have a mere 13 days left with him until he starts school (not counting the days when I’m at work and he’s at pre-school) and I’m planning on making as many fun memories as possible.

Gruffalo experience

Earlier this year a friend told me about the Gruffalo experience she’d taken her kids on and, as it’s Jenson’s favourite book, I kept an eye out for a date that would work for us. As the summer cracked on, I realised that we would have to make some adjustments to fit it in, so last week we bailed on his swimming lesson and headed over to Feadon Farm at Gwel an Mor.

For £13 an adult and £9 a child (under twos go for free), you can have a 90-minute Gruffalo experience. You start with storytime, before meeting the animals from the book: a mouse, a snake, an owl and a fox.

Jenson loved seeing the animals up close and was so good with the beautiful owl. My favourite was this friendly fox; they’re so gentle.

After seeing the animals we went for a walk in the woods to see if we could find a Gruffalo and…

Jenson was a very happy bunny. We then headed to Base Camp (Gwel an Mor’s soft play) for lunch and a play (soft play is an extra £7) and walked down to Portreath for an ice cream before getting the bus back home – where Jenson fell asleep three minutes from home.

It was a really lovely family day out and a great pre-Big School treat.

Fire station open day

Our local fire station has an open day every summer and we went along last weekend for the third time. It’s one of Jenson’s favourite days of the year – he can sit in all the vehicles, have his face painted, get some cake, buy a new fire helmet, and watch a demonstration.

We followed this up with a fun day across the road – again, an annual event which we attended for the third year. He loves the free pony rides and there’s bouncy castles and a BBQ. The only thing you pay for is the ice cream so it’s a great cheap summer day out.

Martha Brook Stationery Social 2019

Martha Brook’s second Stationery Social is a mere 19 sleeps away! My (gifted) ticket arrived the other day and I can’t bleddy wait. It’s on 7 September in London and will include workshops on lettering for journals, envelope addressing, and imaginative gift wrapping, as well as a panel of inspirational speakers. Plus it’s gonna be Instagrammable AF!

I believe there are still a few tickets available – move sharpish!

Happy Hour

The Cornish Barn is one of my favourite venues in Penzance and I love their Happy Hour – £5 cocktails 5-7pm every day! I went for a much-needed natter with a friend the other night and demolished a peach bellini and elderflower cup.

As autumn sneaks ever closer, I’m eager to tick a few more things off my summer bucket list. Here’s hoping we can fit in more family days out.

Have a great week :)
