Yesterday I felt particularly huge – I really felt like the little dude was in the way when I was shaving my legs, I have to open doors wider so I can actually get through and I looked genuinely round. I still haven’t noticed this glow I’m meant to have though.
Last week’s antenatal class was more of the same. Talking To Your Bump Week was pretty much just that – two hours of being told that it’s a good idea to be talking to your baby before s/he’s born. Tomorrow we’ll start a fortnight with the midwives and should hear plenty about what to expect in labour – eek!
We saw the midwife last week too – hearing the heartbeat is always awesome. The next appointment is a needle one though. Boo. My veins are quite deep and they always struggle to get blood from me. One time a nurse had to go in both arms and both hands. Plus that same week I also have to go for a GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test/Gestational Diabetes Test). It’s not because they’ve noticed something in my urine or anything (which tested fine) but they are routinely testing everyone with a BMI over 30. Mine’s 30.5 – well done me! So I get the joy of the 12-hour fast and icky drink. And needles. Pregnancy is so not fun.
That’s not entirely true. I love feeling the little guy wriggling around – it’s reassuring to know that he’s doing ok in there. It just gets a bit weird when I think about the inevitable day when he has to come out. I wonder if the rest of the antenatal classes will make me more or less anxious about it…
I’ve already started thinking about what I want for my birth plan but I won’t be going through that with the midwife until I’m 36 weeks. I know that it doesn’t always go the way you plan but I’m interested to know what other mothers put in their birth plans and how it panned out in practice.
