Bump Watch: Week 27 – thinking about post-labour plans

We’re another week closer towards meeting the little dude – I can almost count the remaining weeks on two hands! I’m now 27 weeks pregnant and he’s approximately 37cm long – that’s way longer than a standard ruler now. Every now and than I cast a glance at the 30cm ruler on my desk and can’t quite believe it.

We had our fourth antenatal class last Friday, the second/last one with the midwife, and found out more about what happens immediately after labour. She discussed the importance of skin to skin contact, delivering the placenta and what happens when you’re sent home. Did you know that if you have a straightforward birth you can go home in two hours?! And that’s at any time of the day. Mind. Blown.

It has been a big week at work so I’ve been feeling a lot more tired lately. I had some time off last week to decorate the baby’s room (which didn’t actually happen as it turns out we’ll be moving in a few weeks! More on that another day) so I’ve been playing catch up – turns out it can be pretty knackering sitting on your ass all day! I decided to skip yoga tonight just to have some time at home to myself but I know I’ll miss it. I’m going to have a pretty big long weekend though, so it’s not like I’ll need the exercise. We’ve got another antenatal class tomorrow, I’m off baby shopping in Plymouth on Saturday (fun!) and on Sunday we’re looking at some bits in the new house and seeing Simon Amstell at the Hall for Cornwall. There’s a lot happening but a lot of fun too.

Next week is looking pretty busy too as I’ve got my GTT test on Monday, the last antenatal class on Friday followed by my next midwife appointment and I’ve just received my letter about the whooping cough vaccine, so I’ll be booking that too. I know the midwife will be doing some more blood tests so I’ll be feeling like a pin cushion by the end of it!

The little man is getting a lot more wriggly now too, which most of the time is awesome because it’s nice to have a little reminder that he’s still in there and doing ok. The other night I lay on the bed for half an hour just watching him move. It was fascinating watching little ripples across my belly rather than individual kicks but also kinda freaky. I might have squealed a little bit. Wish I’d caught that one on video but I just couldn’t be arsed to move.
