10 things I love about autumn

Yep, I’m jumping on the obligatory seasonal post. Reading other people’s posts reminded me why autumn is my favourite season. Come to think of it, I get pretty excited at the start of each new season, but autumn really is the best, isn’t it? Here’s why.

autumn_hot chocolate

1. Drinking all of the hot chocolate. It’s ok to have multiple cups every day. You don’t wanna freeze!

2. Back to school shopping. It’s ok if you’re no longer in education. There are so many bargains to be had it’s rude not to indulge in some new stationery.

autumn_fluffy slippers

3. Fluffy slippers. Because no-one likes cold toes! And the cuter the better.

4. Chunky knits/layering up. Don’t worry about bikini diets or shaving your legs, autumn is all about the layers – not a single patch of skin is on show from your neck to your toes. And it’s oh so snuggly.

autumn_fresh meat

5. Fresh meat. Now’s the time to get stuck into the most incredible and bad-ass sport known to (wo)mankind – roller derby.

6. New winter coat and boots. You can totally justify this all-important shopping trip. I tell myself I’ll wear them again next season but it never happens. I can’t fit into last winter’s fitted coat (thanks, baby!) and I wore my boots to death, so I’m on the lookout for a reasonably priced warm coat on Friday – epic Plymouth shopping trip! I also treated myself to some new boots t’other day and my dear ol’ mum is getting me a pair for my birthday – you need a pair in brown and black!

autumn_halloween

7. Halloween. I’m not really into going out for Halloween these days but I love to stay in and watch Hocus Pocus while stuffing my face with sweets.

8. Fireworks. I love wrapping up and heading out to watch the fireworks with Luke. If I’m lucky he’ll buy me something glowy too. We’re not venturing out with the baby this year but I reckon he’ll love it next year.

autumn_costa cup

9. Christmas coffee cups. Starbucks is so far away that I’m glad Costa have jumped on the Christmas cup bandwagon. I’m desperate for one of the Starbucks autumn cups though.

10. Counting down to my birthday. I used to start counting sleeps weeks before but not so much the last couple of years. Luke tends to have a week off for it though, which is awesome. It’s hard for him to get his own birthday off as it’s in the summer – luckily no-one else wants to take their holiday at the end of November!

Everyone is going on about how awesome autumn is at the mo, myself included, and I felt the need to share the things I hate too…

1. The clocks going back an hour. Now, normally I love this but with a baby? Jenson doesn’t give a shit about clocks!

2. Dark mornings/evenings. This bothers me less while I’m on maternity leave but leaving for work and getting home at dark feels like you’re getting home at bed time.

3. Reality TV. I used to love watching Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor but I think Luke has conditioned me to hate it. Now my Facebook feed is full of people going on about it!

4. Freshers Flu. Again, this is something I managed to skip being on maternity leave and all but it’s something I’ve had every year without fail for the last nine years. Whose idea was it to work at a university again?

5. New bus timetable. Everything seems to operate on a reduced service because of the lack of tourists which means, as a non-driver, it’s a pain in the ass to get anywhere. Especially after 6pm on a Sunday!

I’ve seen what most of you love about autumn but does anyone else dare to share what they don’t like?
