I’ve always loved supporting small businesses where possible and have spent much of the last year championing local creatives. I’ve built a great relationship with some of the lovely Etsy sellers in Cornwall and last night I was able to put some more faces to names.
This weekend sees the return of Etsy Made Local St Ives, a fantastic local Christmas market featuring top sellers. If you’re looking for unique and wonderful gift ideas, you really need to pop down.
Whether you’re looking for Christmas cards and decorations, textiles and home furnishings, or stationery and jewellery (and, let’s face it, when are we ever not looking for stationery?!, there really is something for everyone on your gift list.
I’ve been to a few similar events over the last couple of years and some of the same faces pop up regularly, such as Alright My Bird and Humble Cottage, but I also came across some new sellers. Papio Press have become a new favourite – stationery featuring unicorns and sloths, plus they’re based in Penzance, which makes them awesome by default.
Saponista had the best-smelling stall by far and I loved her bauble gift ideas.
I made sure to stop by my favourite seller, Katy Pillinger, for a print and a few cards. I also picked up another gift but I’m careful not to share a pic here as I’m pretty sure the recipient is reading.
Some of her products even popped up in the goody bag I was given for popping down and taking photos. I dropped the organisers a message ahead of the event to try and get some photos before the crowds arrived and they were so helpful. Here’s a look at what was in my bag – designed by Katy too!
It was great to have the chance to chat with some of the makers before everyone started to arrive. I introduced myself to some very busy and creative women who I hadn’t seen on the circuit before – it’s always fun to hear about people’s creative process and discover new brands for gift ideas.
