You may remember that Jenson and I reviewed a copy of James’ Giant Bug Book for Roald Dahl Day a few weeks ago. To say Jenson loved it would be a huge understatement and he’s still asking to go out on bug walks. Forestry England have kicked up the fun factor even further with their James and the Giant Peach Forest Adventure Kit*.
As if the kid-sized bag wasn’t cool enough on its own, it’s filled with goodies to enhance your bug walk, including an activity booklet, binoculars, magnifier, collecting tray, stickers and a pencil. And all for just £7.50!
As with the Bug Book, the booklet teachers young ‘uns about their favourite insects, including where to find them and a log to note down when and where they spotted them. There are also prompts so you know who to be on the look out for. The collecting tray includes a ruled grid so you can compare sizes too. We’ve spotted many a big spider!
It’s the illustrations that make the kit for me. As a long-time fan of James and the Giant Peach, and the characters, it’s a fun way to introduce the book to Jenson.
Jenson’s favourite item in the kit is the binoculars. They are stored in a slip case and you just pop them out when you’re ready to explore.
He also loved the magnifier and getting up close and personal with the spiders.
*I was sent this adventure kit for review purposes and all thoughts are my own
