Last week was a rough one. After a string of wins the week before, we were due some shit news, which put me in a mood for the whole week. My confidence was knocked, I was unmotivated, lacked energy, was short-tempered… But you know what helped? The daily gratitude page in my bullet journal. Sitting down at the end of each day and forcing myself to find something positive encouraged me to focus on the little things.
Here’s a look back at some of my favourite things from last week.
Where the Crawdads Sing
I loved this book and I’m really looking forward to joining an online chat about it next month. It’s so unlike anything I’ve read before and I’m excited to share my thoughts without worrying about spoiling anything. You can check out my spoiler-free review here.
I’m on a book buying ban but was desperate to read Two Can Keep a Secret. I reserved it at the library, thinking it would take a while for such a new release to become available, but I only had to wait a few days. I love my library! When I popped in to pick up my reservation, a couple of covers grabbed my eye, so I had to check those out too.
Jenson’s at the stage where he’s starting to become more independent and could soon decide to start going to sleep in his own bed. Some nights he tells me he doesn’t want a big cuddle but sometimes he does want to snuggle in. I’m savouring these last cuddles as who knows when they’ll stop.
Appreciating the little things
I’ve been working on savouring the small things through the day, rather than focusing on the things that annoy me. Things like the smell of a new wax melt, the postie delivering our new vacuum cleaner early in the morning so I don’t have to wait in all day. Could this be the year of positivity?
Catching up with friends
We had a busy weekend, catching up with friends at The Front Room on Saturday and our first birthday party of the year on Sunday. It was the first fourth birthday party in Jenson’s friendship group and it’s just a few short months until it’s Jenson’s turn. Then a few months after that it’s school! Jenson was very excited to see a Spiderman pinata at the party.
I’ve started the week feeling a bit perkier after last week’s mood. Hopefully I’ll be motivated to spend more evenings blogging, as I’ve got loads of ideas. Right now I’m off to finish Two Can Keep a Secret!
