I recently became a founding member of @weareletteringartists, a fab new community set up by @typegalstudio, and I’m already bursting with inspiration and ideas. I’ve created a separate Instagram account for my lettering projects as I finally feel ready to take my creative outlet further: @ACornishGeekLetters.
I had a one-to-one session with Emma (aka Typegal) last week and we got to talking about what I’d like to achieve. While I’ve used a few resources to develop my skills over the last year, something I’ve struggled with is finding my own style. I’ve learned by imitation and now it’s time to start branching out, put my own spin on things, and see if there’s a particular area I want to focus on. Take a look at some of the different styles, products, and themes I’ve tried over the last year or two below.

I also want to create something every day – something which hugely affects my mood and has a big impact on my overall wellbeing. I thought a fun way to go about this would be to complete a 30-day challenge, incorporating the act of creating and working towards the goal of finding my style. Another area I struggle with is accountability, so I’ve gone for a three-pronged approach – announcing it to the rest of the WALA community, adding a tracker to my bullet journal, and now I’m telling you! Not only that, I’d love for you to join me. I’m launching #LettersInMyStyle on 1 February, where I’m going to letter something every day, using different products and styles throughout the course of the project, and work towards finding my style.
Did you know that calligraphy can combat anxiety, improve wellbeing, and boost self-esteem? It was a massive help for me during the first lockdown (it’s when I started doing the Blink Lettering* challenges) and I’ve noticed that I’ve struggled this time round without that regular creative outlet. As such, I’ve decided to theme this challenge on wellbeing, focusing on inspiring and motivational quotes, affirmations, and mantras. Do share your favourites in the comments below and I’ll be publishing the daily prompts later this week.
Not only that, I’ve got big news to share… The 30-day challenge is being sponsored by none other than Under the Rowan Trees! I love working with indie businesses and UTRT is the ultimate indie stationery supplier, stocking dip pens, brush pens, fountain pens, watercolours, journals, fineliners, and more, from brands including Archer & Olive, Pentel, Royal Talens, Stabilo, Tombow, and Zebra – everything a letterer needs! All of the products I’ll be using throughout the challenge can be found on their site, plus, if you take part in the challenge and share your work, we’ll send you an exclusive discount code, and we’ll throw in a few giveaways too! What more could you want?

Who’s with me?
How can we join in this challenge ?
I’ll be sharing the daily prompts later this week. All you need to do is share your own version on your IG account and use #LettersInMyStyle 😊
Yes pls
I can’t wait to start this challenge. I’ve only recently taken up journaling and calligraphy so I doubt mine will win any awards but I’m up for trying. This is a lovely focus away from the stresses of life.
