There are few things I love more than bedtime stories with Jenson. I’m so proud to be raising a mini bookworm who always asks for more stories and learns his favourites by heart. Thanks to the Puffin Picture Book Subscription Box, we can easily add to his collection regularly throughout the year.
This children’s book subscription service is aimed at 3-5 year olds, with a whole box full of fun. Each quarterly box will always feature three new Puffin picture books and a range of engaging activities.
The first box came with a magazine with story-related activities, stickers, a door hanger, pencil and more.
The titles are hand selected by the Puffin Picture Book editors and they select books which you’re unlikely to already have in your collection. Let’s take a look at the books from the May box.
How to be a Lion by Ed Vere is about embracing what makes you different from everyone else. Leonard is a quiet lion who likes poetry but all the other lions tell him he needs to be loud and roar. It’s a lovely story about self-acceptance and not following the crowd. There’s also a lion mask for children to cut and colour.
Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Brigette Barrager is a story about believing. Unlike typical unicorn stories, where a child believes in the mythical creature, a unicorn believes in a little girl and hopes that one day they will meet and have magical adventures. Cute, right? And so beautifully illustrated. There’s also a pop-up scene.
My favourite is Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History by Vashti Harrison. It details the lives of 40 trailblazing black women, including politicians, activists, writers, scientists and Olympic athletes. It’s so wonderfully put together and there’s even a bookmark on the inside cover to cut out and keep. Plus the box comes with a set of inspiring postcards to send to a friend or pop on your wall.
At £19.99 for a single box or £75.00 a year, with free delivery, these boxes are great value for money.
I received the May box and the next ones will be sent out in July, September and December, shipping on the 15th of each month. Order before the 5th to receive the next box. Any new orders for the annual subscription will be rolled into the 2020 programme.
Looking for a subscription for older readers? They’re hoping to launch boxes for different age groups soon.
