A few of my favourite things #114

We seem to have developed a bit of a lockdown routine: during the week, I work from home while Luke helps Jenson with his schoolwork and mastering the next level of Sonic the Hedgehog, then we all go out for a walk and feed the squirrels. Then the weekend comes, and that’s when the magic happens. I’d become so used to solo parenting at the weekend while Luke works and, while furlough isn’t ideal, it’s been so nice to spend time together, tag-teaming every so often so we can both have a bit of quiet time. Here’s a little look at some highlights from last weekend.

The great outdoors

I have to spend time outside every day and it’s much easier to get Jenson out when the sun is shining.

You can’t beat a walk along the beach and the chance to dip your toes in the sea. Now that restrictions are being eased ever so slightly on Wednesday, Jenson is looking forward to being able to build some sandcastles, rather than simply passing through.

Balcony garden

We’ve been in this house for three and a half years and have only just started eating out on the balcony. We don’t have a garden, which makes lockdown even harder, so I decided to spruce it up a bit at the weekend. I picked up some of the party animals garden supplies from Sainsburys and added some little plant pots from Poundstretcher. Jenson likes to ‘help’ water the seeds, so here’s hoping they don’t drown before they get a chance to flower!

On Saturday we had a picnic lunch out there followed by a mini BBQ in the evening (we only got a small disposable one because of the space). I thought we’d try dipping our toasted marshmallows in melted chocolate and adding some sprinkles and, holy crap, it’s one of my new favourite treats.

I had some cream leftover from the picnic and decided to whip up some scones yesterday – only I forgot to add the sugar! They still tasted ok with plenty of jam and cream.

Developing my lettering

I’ve been grabbing any opportunity to sit at the table and practise my lettering during the day. Blink Lettering‘s Better Brush Letters gave me the confidence to get back to the Simply Lettering challenges, so I had a go with ‘celebrate every day’. I’ve also enjoyed blending my Tombows.

Speaking of Blink, Milly has just launched five new workbooks and I’ve made a start with the simple uppercase letters. I’ll do another post on my progress when I’ve finished working through them. I’m a Blink Ambassador, which means I get free access to resources, and I genuinely can’t recommend them enough.
