Film review: Zombieland

zombielandZombieland is many things – a buddy movie, a road movie, a bromance, a rom-zom-com (thanks, Edgar Wright, for penning that term after Shaun of the Dead), but most of all, it’s a proper comedy. Jesse Eisenberg is the geeky college kid trying to get home to his parents after a zombie apocalypse kicks off. Along the way, he meets Woody Harrelson’s Tallahassee, a man on a quest to find a Twinkie, and sisters Wichita and Little Rock, who won’t let anyone get in the way of them getting to a theme park. It sounds like it shouldn’t work but it totally does!

It’s not very often that you see a film for the first time and it instantly makes your all-time faves list. Zombieland was one of those films for me. Great cast, sharp script, catchy one-liners, and it’s educational! These are rules to live by, zombies or no zombies!

One of the best things about Zomebieland is that it is so quotable. Plus it has got such a great cast – Jesse Eisenberg is the thinking man’s Michael Cera, Woody Harrelson, the understated comedy king, Emma Stone is Hollywood’s current ‘go to gal’ and Abigail Breslin a young star destined for great things. And the best bit? Bill fucking Murray’s cameo! Possibly the greatest ever!
