Rachel Khoo’s The Little Paris Kitchen has popped up on several of my favourite websites lately and I’ve been considering picking up a copy. I’m not much of a cook and am wary of buying cook books in case they’re too adventurous for me. And by adventurous I mean anything where I need to keep my eye on more than one thing at a time, or chill something in the fridge as part of the preparation. I like something that I can prepare then and there, bung it in the oven and be done with it.
I called in on my aunt earlier and noticed she had a copy. It was love at first sight. Even putting the recipe element to one side, as a book it is gorgeous. It’s a substantial hardback which is printed on that kind of paper that looks, feels and smells good. Don’t look at me like that! You know exactly what I mean! Plus the book jacket reminds me of Mark Kermode’s Hatchet Job. It’s high quality matt with a bit of gloss. It feels so good! And that is totally normal…
Anyhoo, I flicked through it to see if the attemptable recipe ratio was any good and there are so many tempting yummies in there! I’m definitely going to grab a copy. Plus it is beautifully designed and would make a great read/interesting coffee table book. There are so many beautiful photographs – and not just of the food! There are loads of Rachel at work and out and about in Paris. Man, I’d love to give that a go one day. My boyfriend has been before and insists that it’s a shithole but I have seen too many movies to not to have fallen in love with the city already. Amelie, the final couple of episodes of Sex and the City and Midnight in Paris in particular make it look so swoon-worthy. Maybe one day… Until then, I’ll always have The Little Paris Kitchen!
