I love The Mexico Inn. It’s no longer my local so I relish any opportunity to go back. When The Range opened a few weeks ago I made sure to pop up to check it out on a Tuesday so that I had the perfect excuse to go over the road and introduce my mum and aunt to The Mexico’s fish and chips.
I first had a taste on a whim after a baby group way back when I was on maternity leave – the ability to eat a hot meal while Jenson napped, accompanied by some fab mum friends, was too good an opportunity to pass up. And it was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had – and that’s saying something from a Cornish maid who has worked many a summer in a fish and chip shop.
One of the things I love about The Mexico Inn is that everything is local and fresh. Plus you get a bleddy geet chunk of fish on your plate. With handcut chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce, you’re stretched to find room for a dessert afterwards. I found enough room to share a brownie and ice cream (plus clotted cream!) with my mum. The honeycomb pieces were a great touch.
If you’re not in the Penzance/Longrock area on a Tuesday, fear not, as they do takeaway throughout the week! Perfect for a walk along the beach.
