When you’re struggling to buy a gift for someone you can’t go wrong with a book – and we all know dads are notoriously difficult to shop for. There are only so many mugs and keyrings one poor old fart can own with “World’s Best Dad” on them. Me? I like to go with a bookish option. And Abrams & Chronicle have something for all kinds of dads, be they creative, sentimental or more politically minded. Here’s a closer look at some of my favourite options.
Luke and his dad are both keen photographers and 104 Things to Photograph* is a great way to encourage them to think outside the box when they hit a creative slump.
The prompts provide photographers with inspiration and a means of creating content regularly, even when you feel fresh out of ideas. I love that it comes as a photo album so you can create your own portfolio. Think of it as an IRL Instagram challenge.
Whenever Christmas comes round my own dad always has a selection of books on his Christmas list – I don’t know where I get it from! He’s Labour through and through and, as much as he likes his biographies, I thought Corbyn Comic Book* would be a fun diversion from his typical reading material. I love the varied styles in this collection.
If you’re looking for a more sentimental gift which can be treasured for years to come, Letters to my Grandchild* is the perfect way for grandads to reflect and also look to the future.
*I was sent these items for the purpose of this gift guide and all thoughts are my own
