As I sit typing this post, I’m feeling pretty relaxed. I’m fresh from a bath and inspiring podcast, and already excited about the prospect of an extra hour in bed tomorrow as Luke is off work for the weekend. It doesn’t get much better than this.
Here’s a look at a few of my favourite things from the last week.
Sunday roast at The Cornish Barn
The Cornish Barn is one of those weird places which doesn’t serve roast dinners in the summer – madness! Fortunately, as the days get colder, you can count on The Cornish Barn to warm your cockles.
My brother treated us to a roast last week and it was very welcome. I normally go for the beef brisket but decided to go crazy and order the beer can chicken this time – yum! I’m also quite partial to their strawberry lemonade – unfortunately so is Jenson, so the straw quickly becomes non-functional. At least he’s getting better at eating out and wolfed down some carrots and parsnips.
Letter to Father Christmas
Have I mentioned how excited I am for Christmas this year? Normally I don’t like to think about it until after my birthday (27 November – wish list here ;)) but Jenson is so into it this year that I’m enjoying all of the little moments.
We picked up this letter writing kit in The Works the other day for a mere £3. It comes with ten sheets of paper, ten envelopes, two sheets of stickers and a novelty pen, plus the fold-out case has a picture to colour in.
We wrote out Jenson’s requests and rushed out to post it straight away. Cuteness!
Books That Matter
I won an Instagram giveaway! I was so excited to read about the launch of Books That Matter but just can’t spare the money for a subscription at the moment. Fortunately I won a box and it made my week. I can’t wait to read Purple Hibiscus. After reading, and loving, We Should All Be Feminists and How to be a Feminist, I added all of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novels to my library reservation list.
I was ridiculously productive on Friday. I worked from home in the morning, picked Jenson up from nursery, did three loads of laundry, two loads of dishes and spent a couple of hours tidying the office (i.e. sorting through Christmas presents and blogger mail). While tidying, I found a stray bath bomb and saw it as a sign that I needed a pamper night. Not one to ignore the fates, I indulged, along with a beautiful scented candle, soft lighting and an episode of Ctrl Alt Delete. I’d recently finished reading A Spark of Light and wanted to catch up on Emma Gannon’s conversation with the fabulous Jodi Picoult. I was not disappointed.
UK Blog Awards
I’m through to the second round of the UK Blog Awards in the Arts & Culture and Lifestyle categories. If you’ve enjoyed my content this year, I’d love it if you’d take a minute to vote for me.
It’s Sunday Funday and, as Luke has the weekend off and rarely gets a Sunday roast, guess what I’ll be doing today! Hope you have a good one :)
