I was sent these books for review purposes and all thoughts are my own. This post features affiliate links
Every day is Book Day in my house but I’m a sucker for a campaign. As today is World Book Day, and the release date of Trigger’s Pocket Books, what better time to introduce you to a couple of these lovely new titles?
Trigger is one of my favourite publishers. They focus solely on books which support mental health and wellbeing, and I’ve previously featured Geek Magnifique and Depression in a Digital Age on this blog.

This new series includes Pocket Book of Friendship, Pocket Book of Happiness, Pocket Book of Love, and Pocket Book of Hope. They’re great gift ideas and also handy to keep nearby for those often-needed pick-me-ups.

Each book features a little introduction and dozens of quotes from various well-known writers and celebrities. I’m a sucker for an inspiring or empowering quote and I’ve found no-one does it better than the literary greats: “There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.” – Jane Austen

The Pocket Book of Happiness is my favourite of the two. Again, the writers do it best (“The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again” – Charles Dickens) but there are some truly great quotes from historical figures, such as Martin Luther King Jr: “But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars”.

Some are particularly poignant and one in particular made me well up: “I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless, and they don’t want anyone else to feel like that” – Robin Williams. It’s a stark reminder of how important it is to be kind, both to ourselves and others.
