I’m so over keeping my bullet journal minimal these days. I’ve not gone completely the other way, as it can be too much for me to maintain, but I like a splash of colour, some brush lettered headings, and the chance to throw in some doodles. Of course, I’m completely lacking in artistic talent, so Helen Colebrook’s Journal With Purpose has come in so handy.

This book features over 1,000 motifs, alphabets, and icons to help personalise your journal, including banners, borders, wreaths, and more.

I free-handed these with my Pentel 0.1mm Pointliner before that ran out (don’t worry, I’ve ordered a new one!) and switched to the 0.3mm (such a difference!). I’ve definitely learned to take my time and practise – and use a ruler!

The doodles are themed so you can easily tailor them to your journal spreads. I already can’t for autumn! Other themes include nature, stationery, travel, and food.

Some of my doodles definitely need a lot more practise – I’m a bit obsessed with the jellyfish and really want to master that whale.

I loved trying these butterflies doodles (I’m going to add some watercolour next time) and I’m quite proud of that film strip.

I’m a sucker for wreaths for title pages and will have fun with these.
When it comes to lettering, I’m all about the brush pens but I enjoyed playing with these styles.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have noticed that I’m a teeny bit obsessed with watercolour at the moment, so I’m looking forward to combining my two new favourite creative outlets. More to follow!
