I flippin’ love the online stationery community but it’s so handy to have a nerdy friend IRL too, especially one like Dom. Her stationery collection rivals mine and she lets me try before I buy. She recently lent me her Karin brush pens so I could decide if they were worth the investment. Spoiler alert: they are!
I love it when brands release themed packs – so handy for seasonal lettering projects or bullet journal themes. The flower colours set* has some great shades. I did the ol’ pen test in my Rhodia dot pad and they’re on a par with Tombow – although I think I prefer these! I certainly find them easier to handle.
I’ve gotten really into watercolour lately. I’m not particularly artistic so tend to doodle over swatches, or blend colours for lettering. Here are some swatches – I love the pink shades.
They’re fun to blend too, although this lettering is far from my best – just a quick play to test them out.
Dom lent me the neon colours* too but I wasn’t a fan. I don’t mind metallics but I find neon a bit garish. Each to their own.
There doesn’t appear to be many colour sets available in the UK but I’ve managed to track down some additional options. Ken Bromley Art Supplies seems to be the best stockist, with individual pens for £1.90 each, a set of 12 basic colours for £19.95, 12 grey colours for £19.95, or a ten-piece metallic set for £23.95. If you want to go all out, there’s a mini box with 26 pens plus a blender, or a mega box with 60 pens plus three blenders. For the big spenders, Amazon do a box of 72*, which includes the neons, plus three blenders for £146.50.
