I don’t know about you but my TBR is ridiculous. Now that I’m working from home I have less time to read and the books that I’ve been excitedly pre-ordering are taking months to get to. So I’m doing what I always do when I want to get shit done – making it public to make myself accountable.

22 is barely a dent in my TBR pile but it helps ease some of the guilt I feel when I look at my stacks of beautiful yet unread books. From The Binding which I excitedly ordered a couple of years ago amongst all the hype, to Wish You Were Here, the first Jodi Picoult book I’ve not read within days of publication for years, there are dozens of books which deserve a lot better from this bookworm.

Of course, I’ll still buy new books this year, so I’ve left space for new additions. And I’ve tried to mix it up, with novels, poetry, an autobiography, young adult, modern classics, non-fiction, festive reading… I’m not committing myself to an order, as there’s nothing worse than forcing yourself to read something you’re not in the mood for, but hopefully I’ll be able to move from book to book pretty seamlessly.
What books are top of your list for the new year?
22 is still a good number of books to have read. Better than zero! I absolutely adored The Binding, and wish I’d read it sooner, so do yourself a favour and slip it to the top of the pile. Femlandia was okay, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as her previous two books.
My TBR list isn’t huge, I’m quite a ‘buy one book at a time’ type of person so it doesn’t tend to get too unruly. But I like your 22 for 2022 plan! It’s nice to be able to put a dent in the pile š On my TBR list right now are What Strange Paradise by Omar El Akkad and She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan. Plus I’m in the middle of Butter Honey Pig Bread by Francesca Ekuyasi – very good so far!
