A few weeks ago, Chloe completed the Unpopular Opinions Book Tag and I immediately wanted to answer the questions myself, so here goes.
What is a popular book or series that you didn’t like?
I like most of the books I’ve read – I’m pretty good at selecting something that I’ll enjoy. Or maybe that just means I don’t venture outside my comfort zone very often… There are a lot of series that I’ve avoided thinking I won’t like them – I didn’t pick up a Harry Potter book for 20 years! I really didn’t like The Road – is that a particularly popular book?
What is a popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love?
I’m a sucker for picking things off the bestseller lists so I don’t think I like anything that’s particularly hated. For the sake of an answer, young adult books tend to be looked down on by some older people and I quite liked the Hunger Games trilogy.
What is a love triangle in a book or series where the main character ended up with the person you did not want them to end up with?
Speaking of the Hunger Games…
What is a popular book genre that you hardly reach for?
I’m really not into fantasy books, particularly young adult fantasy, which seems to be rather popular. That being said, I quite liked The Raven Boys and Caraval. I won them in giveaways and probably wouldn’t have read them otherwise – now I want to read more in the series.
What is a popular or beloved character that you do not like?
Catherine and Heathcliffe. While I quite like the book (Wuthering Heights) itself, I don’t like them or their relationship.
Who is a popular author that you can’t seem to get into?
Cormac McCarthy. I really didn’t like the style of The Road. I’ve got a copy of All the Pretty Horses that has been sat on my shelf for years.
What is a popular book trope that you are tired of seeing?
High school stories with a gay best friend who is only there to serve the main character with no plot of their own.
What is a popular book or series that you have no interest in reading?
50 Shades.
What is a movie or TV show adaption of a book or series that you like more than the book/s?
I thought the adaptation of Thirteen Reasons Why was much more powerful than the book – although I read and watched them in the wrong order.

An interesting read. It got me thinking of what I don’t like. I fully with you on Harry Potter, don’t think I’m going to read them.

I agree with some people looking down on YA but they’re snobs. And honestly? I find YA far more complex and daring than any literary novel I’ve read in the past ten years.

Enjoyed reading this. I liked The Road but I get why you might not. I don’t read much YA but I mean to. I will read anything except police crime, erotica and sonetimes romance. I try to read out of my comfort zone.
I rarely read books I don’t like either, mostly because if I really don’t like something I generally won’t finish it. But incidentally, I read two books (“I Smile Back” by Amy Koppelman and “When I Was Five I Killed Myself” by Howard Buten) this month that I didn’t like. I guess I’ve just been unlucky with reading lately. Nice list, I like what you said about “The Hunger Games.” Some people are such snobs about the young adult genre, I really don’t get it. 😛
