Abrams & Chronicle is one of my favourite publishers to work with. With a fantastic range of fiction and non-fiction titles for all ages, plus oodles of stationery, there really is something for everyone. Not least with these three recent releases.
Their Studio Ghibli collection is amazing. I’ve previously reviewed My Neighbour Totoro postcards and notecards, a Catbus journal, and a Totoro journal, and now you can get your nerdy mitts on a set of 100 postcards.
They’re beautifully packaged in this fold-out box, detailed with a film strip down the side.
This gift set features final frames from all of Ghibli’s feature films, from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984) to When Marnie Was There (2014).
I’m excited to expand my Ghibli knowledge now that Netflix has picked the films up. Which one is your favourite?
I love that Jenson’s school is teaching him about different cultures; last term he learned about Diwali and Chinese New Year. I’m eager for him to know more about how other people live and the This is How I Do It activity book will be a great help.
Children are encouraged to note things such as who they live with, what kind of house they live in, how they say hello, what their teacher is called, etc, alongside learning about other children around the world. It’s an educational tool as well as a time capsule.
There are also postcards to pull out and post, as well as stickers, and a map. Jenson is really into maps (and space) at the moment, so he’s going to love working through this.
Anna Strong: A Spy During the American Revolution is the latest addition to my mini feminist bookworm collection.
It tells the true story of Anna Smith Strong (1740–1812), who fearlessly helped save the American Revolution by acting as a spy for George Washington.
The book, written by Sarah Glenn Marsh and illustrated by Sarah Green, is in keeping with similar titles from Abrams & Chronicle, featuring a stunning naked hardback and beautiful endpapers. Plus, for those particularly nerdy readers, it also includes a spy code, so you can create your own secret messages.
