Jenson’s first Christmas

That’s it; Christmas is officially over! Our regularly scheduled programming can now resume. But not until I’ve shared a gazillion photos of Jenson looking super-cute on his first Christmas!

I’ve always been a big believer that Christmas is about more than just one day, so we planned to spend Christmas Eve with my family, Christmas day at home (just the three of us) and we invited Luke’s parents around for Boxing Day. Of course, we had to leave my parents’ house early enough on Christmas Eve to partake in Christmas Eve box activities.

I had planned to swap and open Christmas presents with the family members who were there but some of them are a bit anal about waiting til Christmas morning. In fact, my baby brother is 25 in a few weeks and still insists on coming downstairs and seeing all of the presents waiting to be unwrapped on Christmas morning – even though most of them are now for his son. He let the children open their presents though and Jenson was very impressed with the paper, which was to be expected at this age.

We got Jenson home in time to bath him and put him in his festive PJs before ‘reading’ The Snowman and watching Father Christmas. He was a good boy and settled down early too so me and Luke could enjoy some quiet time downstairs, watching Jessica Jones (we’re still only a few episodes in – no spoilers please!), before retiring to the office for the rest of the evening to open our presents to each other and catch up with friends on Skype.

Money has been tight towards the end of the year as I’ve now reached the point where I’m only getting SMP, so gifts for family and friends have primarily insisted of adorable framed photos of the boy – who wouldn’t love that?! This is the one we went with, which Luke took the other day. He’s so bloody good!

Me and Luke also decided to set a budget for gifts to each other and the boy done good! I’m so glad he managed to get one of the Little Miss Blogger mugs before they sold out. I’ve got a couple of Keeping in Touch (training) days coming up at work so I’ll be able to catch up on my reading then too. Every cloud…

Jenson had been up by 6.30am the last three days in a row and because Luke was on three days off in a row, he was an absolute angel and got up with Jenson on Christmas morning so I could get some extra sleep. He got up at 6.30 and I had an 8am lie-in! The best bit about getting a lie-in is when Luke brings Jenson into bed with me later and he rolls onto his side and grabs my face, smiling. He’s just the cutest! Luke continued his Christmas angel mission by cooking the most epic Christmas dinner (BTW, sprouts are totally edible if you cake them in sugar and fry them with a load of pancetta!) and doing all the dishes as he went along! Now that’s some Christmas present!

Speaking of presents, we were totally spoiled – we’re so lucky to have such lovely and generous people in our lives. Jenson had so many presents that his new toy box was full by lunchtime and we were only halfway through. We didn’t want to rush through the present unopening so we saved some for the next day or two. Whenever he opened a present and realised there was a toy inside he got so excited – his arms would flap about in excitement like when he sits in the highchair and realises food is coming. Of course, it takes a while to get to that stage because he wants to eat the tags/ribbons. Or try and pull his socks off. Here are a few cute little piccies that Luke took.

We had planned to open the presents from Luke’s side of the family on Boxing Day when his parents came over but Jenson wasn’t feeling up to it. He had had a cough and cold for over a week and he had a really bad teething day – one of those ones where teething granules, gel, paracetamol and cuddles just don’t seem to help. Poor little chap, it broke my heart a little bit. Fortunately, he started smiling and laughing again about half an hour before bed and settled down quite well. He even went down for the night without his usual two hours of coughing his guts up. Seriously, the night before he was coughing so much that I was worried he was going to make himself sick. At least that is finally starting to clear so he doesn’t have to deal with too much at once. Have I mentioned that he has two teeth now? Plus another on the way. It’s weird what you get excited/proud about as a parent.

Anyhoo, here’s a look at some of Jenson’s incredible presents. This is probably about half of them!

Special recognition for this incredible personalised xylophone from Not on the High Street. It was beautifully packaged, which I totally wasn’t expecting. And Jenson loves playing it with his Daddy!
