Giving less fucks, more film soundtracks and embracing the festivities #LittleLoves

The last week has been a bit of a game-changer for me. Going along to Outlaw 2017 and reading Sarah Knight’s first and third books have really given me a kick up the ass to work on my side-hustle in 2018. I reckon her second book (have I asked Santa for enough yet?) really will help me get my shit together and make it happen.

Here’s a look at what I’ve been loving this week.

Read: The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck and You Do You by Sarah Knight. My review of the former, along with my fuck budget, can be found here and I’ll be posting my review of the latter on Tuesday, its official release date. Spoiler alert: both are great reads and you must ask Santa for them.

Sarah made my week when she retweeted my post with this lovely comment:

Watched: I’m finally caught up with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and holy crap, is it just me or did it get dark really quick? I mean, I thought Greg’s alcoholism and Paula’s abortion in season two were handled really well (although why did Greg have to leave? He was my favourite!) but then I felt the tone really shifted. I thought season one was really funny and quirky and, yeah, she had mental health problems which were sort of ignored/glossed over but her background reveal and what happened at the end of the last episode (I’ll avoid spoilers in case you’re not caught up on season three – pop back and chat with me in the comments when you’re done) seemed really intense. Anyone else feel a tonal shift? Do you like it? I’m too emotionally invested to bail now but I’m definitely enjoying it less.

Speaking of which, I’m looking for a new show to binge in the evenings which is Jenson-friendly, so not Stranger Things. I’m thinking along the lines of Jane the Virgin/The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt/The Good Place/Atypical (not seen any of those yet). I’m yet to find something as ‘nice’ as Gilmore Girls. Challenge accepted?

Heard: I don’t have time for films anymore and it’s breaking my heart (see here for a pre-2018 resolution to make more time for films), so I’m trying to make up for it by reminiscing over my faves and listening to soundtracks. This week it was Lost in Translation. It’s so damn dreamy.

Made: Connections at Outlaw. It was such a busy event but I was able to chat to quite a few people about their businesses and my blog. When I shared the post a lot of them commented and/or shared too so that was pretty cool. I’m super-excited for Etsy Made Local in a couple of weeks.

Wore: I’ve been wearing my new boots (an early birthday present from my fab Daddy) erryday but haven’t got a snap yet. Bad blogger! To be fair, the camera on my phone is a tad fucked but I’m upgrading at the end of the month and can’t wait.

Jenson got some new clobber from his lovely auntie though. He smiled so hard when he saw the Paw Patrol tee. Gotta love Tu Clothing!

And lastly: Normally I don’t like to start thinking about Christmas until after my birthday but I’ve started embracing the festivities. Jenson found the dancing penguin in the cupboard at the weekend, along with his elf hat, so he’s festive AF. And I had my first Christmas coffee cup last weekend, so I’m raring to go!

I’m not ready for the weekend – one of my favourite people is moving away on Monday and she’s having a farewell thing on Sunday. I’m still working on a way to keep her. Wish me luck!

  1. I know just what you mean about Crazy ExGirlfriend. I kind of get what they’re doing but it kind of just makes the previous seasons feel odd in that we were laughing along with the ‘craziness’ and now she’s actually been diagnosed it’s hard to know how to feel. I’m sticking with it but not sure where they will end up taking it. x

  2. I need to read those books. The first one has been on my amazon wishlist for about a year! I’m off to read your post now ;-) If you’re looking for a series as ‘nice’ as Gilmore Girls, Hart of Dixie is a good one, set in a cutesy Southern American town too, so kind of comparable to Stars Hollow. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
