A few of my favourite things #68

I haven’t written one of these posts for a couple of weeks as I’ve been busy with my 12 Days of Christmas giveaways (you could still win a Slow Box, a mistletoe bracelet or a copy of my book of the year: The Displaced). But don’t worry, that’s not all I’ve been doing. Tis the season to be jolly and all that. With a few added birthdays it means I’ve been out and about a lot more than usual lately. Here’s a look at some highlights from the last three weeks.

All of the food

Not gonna lie, most of this post is going to be about food. With five family members’ birthdays within a few weeks of Christmas, plus my own, we have a lot of occasions to celebrate – and a lot of food to eat. Over the last three weeks, I’ve had a carvary at The Lugger, brunch at The Front Room, coffee and cake at The Honey Pot, tapas at The Pirate Inn, plus a Christmas burger at Wetherspoons, dinner at Blacks and my work Christmas do at The Alverton (the last three are pictured below).

The night at Blacks shall always be known as the night my son said I was a ‘real princess’. Which he said again when I dressed up for my work party. What an angel!

Oh, while we’re on the subject of food, Luke watched a video on YouTube (I’ll try and find the link later) and now makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches.

Getting in the spirit

I’m trying to do as many fun, festive activities with Jenson as possible. We went to watch the lights switch on in Penzance and met Father Christmas last week (more pics here) but the lantern parade was cancelled last night and we had to bail on Jenson’s nursery crafternoon because he’s started with another barking cough. We’ve already made Christmas cards for the family and some biscuits, and with a day at home planned for today, I reckon it’s time to get our bake on again.

I also treated myself to all of the festive munchies the other day. Gotta love B&M and The Range for bargains.

New books for 2019

Review copies are rolling in for some hotly anticipated 2019 releases. I can’t wait to read Jane Harper’s third novel but I think it’s going to have to wait for the commute my first full week back after Christmas. I loved the attention to detail with the book blogger mail.

I’m going to start slowing down for the last couple of weeks of the year and plan on catching up on a lot of films on Netflix. So far I’ve added A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding, The Christmas Chronicles, The Princess Switch and Dumplin’ to my list, and I’d like to re-watch La La Land, The Holiday, Love Actually… Oh fuck, there just aren’t enough hours in the day. What are your must-sees?
