Along with Leuchtturm, Archer & Olive is the brand I see mentioned most on bujo Facebook groups. It’s meant to be the 160gsm journal and I was lucky enough to get one for Christmas. Wanna know if it’s worth the hype?
Beautiful, right? And that’s a pretty bold claim: ‘No ghosting or bleeding. Perfect for markers, fountain pens, and even paint!’ But we’ll get on to the pen test in a moment.
First, the features. It’s an A5 hardback, 100% vegan, with eco-friendly packaging. It comes in a beautiful box and one of the two page ribbons features a branded charm – they’re all about the details. There’s also a back pocket, pen loop, and elastic closure. It’s handmade too, and features 160 pages with a 5mm dot grid. Not too shabby! Now for the pen test.
No bleeding of ghosting, whaddya know?
I did see significant bleeding with my dip pen but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt as I’m still trying to get to grips with it.
I had a go with some watercolour pencils too and didn’t notice any ghosting. The paper also stayed smoother than the Tsuki 160sm.
For those who prefer more pages, Archer & Olive also do a 192 page notebook, although I’m more interested in trying the black-out next.
