12 Days of Christmas giveaways: Jane Harper book bundle from Little, Brown #ad

The following products were supplied for the purpose of this giveaway

Jane Harper is one of my favourite writers and her upcoming release, The Survivors, is my most anticipated novel of 2021. Fortunately I don’t have to wait long, as I’ve pre-ordered and it’s due for publication in the UK on 21 January. To celebrate, I’m offering one lucky reader the chance to catch up on her back catalogue.

The Dry

The Dry is set in Kiewerra, a small town in rural Australia. Residents have been suffering a drought for the last two years, threatening their farms and livelihoods. When farmer, Luke Hadler, and his wife and son are found dead in an apparent murder-suicide, childhood friend, Federal Agent Aaron Falk, returns home to pay his respects. Unable to come to terms with their son’s actions, Luke’s parents ask Falk to look into other possibilities. What was meant to be a straightforward 24 hours back in his home town becomes a lot more complicated – and dangerous – when Falk has to face what drove him away 20 years ago.

Never has the cliche ‘page-turner’ been more relevant; I was kept guessing until the last page.

Force of Nature

It can be hard to live up to the success of a multi-award-winning debut novel but Jane Harper certainly met, if not exceeded, expectations with Force of Nature.

Fans of The Dry will be pleased to see the return of not only Harper but also Federal Agent Aaron Falk. Six months on from the Hadler murders he is back at work and finds himself drawn into a complicated case. After five women head into the bush for a team building exercise and only four emerge on the other side, everyone is asking what happened to Alice Russell, especially Falk, who is relying on Russell for vital evidence in a whistle-blowing case.

It says a lot about Harper’s writing that she keeps you guessing – and caring about the outcome, especially when the missing person isn’t exactly likeable. In fact, most of the women are flawed and that’s what keeps it interesting, with Russell revealing more about the characters’ backgrounds and home lives as the mystery progresses.

The Lost Man

Jane’s first two books followed Federal Agent Aaron Falk, who is absent from this novel. Although The Lost Man is a stand-alone story, there is still a brief nod to what went down in the first book, which is fun for readers who are already fans of Jane’s work.

The Lost Man opens with the discovery of a body in the Australian outback, days before Christmas. Far from his car and any supplies, Cameron’s family can’t believe he’d be walking around in the middle of nowhere in the blistering heat. Could he have been walking in the anticipation of death? Or could someone else be responsible?

As with Jane’s previous novels, characters’ histories are revealed in flashback throughout, so people you’re introduced to at the start may not really be who they seem. She keeps her readers on their toes and, yet again, I was unable to play detective myself and guess the ending.
