Last year I celebrated World Letter Writing Day for the first time with some snail mail goodies from Abrams + Chronicle. This year I’ve stepped up the geek factor with a Manuscript Calli Creations Writing and Wax Sealing Set from Executive Pens Direct*.
The kit is beautifully presented in a handy storage kit and comes with everything you need to send fancy letters. After you’ve signed off with a flourish, you can seal your envelope with a wax seal.
The set includes:
- A Stylus fountain pen with two nib sections: iridium nib and 2B with protection
- Leaflet with easy to follow instructions and creative ideas
- Six coloured ink cartridges – black, blue, purple, turquoise, pink and orange
- Five Callicreative italic markers – black, purple, green, pink and turquoise
- Flower seal with purple wax
- Practice pad and guidelines
Not gonna lie, I’ve barely had a crack at calligraphy since I first gave it a go for last year’s World Calligraphy Day blog post. It’s mostly because I don’t really have the time to sit down and do it properly but I really would like to master it. I’d used Manuscript’s products last time too and rate them highly.
I have to say, I bleddy loved using these pens. I started out the with the black while I got a handle on things again and then moved on to the stunning metallic colours. These were a bit harder to use as the tip is thicker but that will come with practice. I’m in love with the colours.
Although the guidance helps you with height, I struggle to judge how much space to leave between letters, so I think I need to have another crack at lower case.
The standard nib on the fountain pen is sooo smooth to write with. I tried the pink ink and I think it’s my new favourite pen. It’s a great fountain pen – slim, not too heavy or bulky. The flow is great and doesn’t come out too fast, unlike my Opus, which I struggle to regulate sometimes.
You know what really fancy people do when they’re done writing their fancy letters with their fancy pens and their fancy handwriting? They use a wax seal – Hogwarts, eat your heart out! This was so fun to do too. Birthday cards are gonna be fancy AF from now on.
This incredible set has genuinely encouraged me to spend more time letter writing. It is currently available for just £21.60. Buy it here.
