When I spot a beautiful new collection from Abrams + Chronicle, I like to go all in. And when the products come from the fabulous The House That Lars Built, it’s easy to see why you can’t buy just one.
After the success of her book, Craft the Rainbow, designer and crafter, Brittany Watson Jepsen, created a new collection, featuring a notebook, journal and a guided journal*.
The paperback notebook features 128 rainbow-coloured pages, with gold edging – and it’s dot grid! So if you’re looking for a stunner of a new bujo, you can’t go wrong with this beaut. With five different coloured sections, it would also work well as a project book.
The gsm isn’t stated on the product description but I put it to the pen test and it held out well. I used the STABILO pointMax and Sensor, as well as a Manuscript CalliCreative, and there was no visible bleed-through.
The hardback journal features 192 rainbow-coloured, ruled pages and beautiful exposed spine. Again, I put it to the pen test and had no visible bleed through, even with the thicker pen (I also used a STABILO pen 88). I’m really impressed with the paper quality of this collection; so often you find a pretty notebook with thin paper and there’s not a lot you can do with it. These are pretty perfect!
The different coloured sections in the journal are also separated by marble-effect pages, which would work well to help separate and/or categorise your content if you wanted to use it for different projects.
The guided journal, My Life in Color, is my favourite from the collection. Subtitled ‘A Keepsake of My Past, Present and Future’, it’s quite possibly the most incredible journal I’ve ever seen. It’s divided into eight colour-themed chapters, prompting you to record memories, goals and treasures. And, as with all good hardbacks, it’s worth peeking under the jacket. Look at it in all its naked glory!
I’m going to take my time with this one and use it for my self-care evenings through the autumn (follow me on Instagram for updates as I complete the different chapters). I’ve included a sample spread from each of the first few chapters below to give you an idea of the contents but it really is something to be seen, felt and smelled for yourself to be fully appreciated.
Incredible, right? Which one is your favourite?
