Happy World Calligraphy Day!
The lovely chaps from Small Man Media have sent me a cracking bundle of some of Manuscript Pen Company’s best products (and some Silvine notebooks to boot!) to celebrate this wonderfully nerdy day – and I’m in a sharing mood. As you read through this post you’ll find three giveaways. Enjoy.
Calligraphy and lettering has become so ‘trendy’ this year, which has been great for helping me with this year’s goal to master some techniques. There are so many fab products and resources available and I’ve really enjoyed joining online communities with fellow newbies.
I’ve dipped in and out a few times over the last couple of years (see a 2017 World Calligraphy Day photo below – my photography has improved too!) and I’ve found dedicating a short amount of time every evening over the last couple of weeks so beneficial.
Over the last few months I’ve fallen for brush pens but getting to grips with some new calligraphy pens over the last few nights has totally converted me. This Manuscript Modern Calligraphy Set is genuinely my new favourite product and I find it so relaxing to practice each evening. I think when my confidence has grown a bit I’ll spend my evenings writing positive affirmations as a way to keep developing my skills and also work on my own self-confidence and wellbeing.
I learned quickly that you need to pair a dip pen with thicker paper.
I’ve been using the lettering pad I picked up in The Works for £3, which has thicker paper and helpful guidelines. I’ve also been putting what I’ve learned with Blink Lettering‘s Better Brush Drills to the test.

I love looking back at my progress.
If you fancy getting your mitts on a calligraphy pen, I’m giving away this Creative Calligraphy Set, which is ideal for beginners and features a nib for left-handers. To be in with a chance of winning, just head to my Twitter account and follow the instructions in my pinned tweet.
When it comes to everyday handwriting, we’re all looking for that pen which makes our scrawl look sexy AF. For many, that pen is a fountain pen. Manuscript have plenty of those too and I enjoyed putting the Clarity to the test.
My childhood experience with fountain pens was terrible – scratchy, leaky, bleeding/ghosting. But the ones I’ve been lucky enough to try in my adult years have been a genuine joy. The Clarity is so smooth and, at £5.29, is perfect for stationery addicts on a budget.
I paired it with a Silvine pocket notebook and was pleased to see no bleed.
These notebooks are ideal for throwing in your bag for everyday use and the perforated pages make it easy to grab your shopping list.
Looking to upgrade your stationery stash? Head to my Facebook page and follow the instructions in my pinned post to be in with a chance of winning a Curve fountain pen, a wax seal set (I adore these. Check out previous reviews here and here) and a pack of three pocket notebooks. I know, I spoil you.
And that’s not all! If you’re as obsessed as I am with rainbow lettering, you’ll love these CalliCreative Duotips. I first reviewed them back in 2017 so I thought I’d give away this pack too. Head to my Instagram account and check out my World Calligraphy Day post to be in with a chance of winning. I’ve thrown in another pack of pocket notebooks too.
There are other ways you can celebrate World Calligraphy Day. Like last year, Manuscript have partnered with Birmingham Children’s Hospital to Say Something Special. Write a special message, draw something amazing, or just write a word on a sheet of paper and send it to FAO Dan Shorthouse, Say Something Special, 2nd Floor, 6 Waterloo Road, Wolverhampton, WV1 4BL.
And if you’re sharing your own lettering practice today, tag Manuscript Pen Company @ManuscriptPenCo in your posts, using the hashtags #WorldCalligraphyDay and #SaySomethingSpecial. And keep an eye on their accounts for more giveaways. You can never have too much stationery.
