Over the past month I’ve felt like Jenson has become more of a little person and less of a baby. Sure, we still have plenty of early milestones to go, such as rolling over, first tooth and weaning, but he has a proper little personality now, can babble for hours and he’s getting really strong on his little legs.
The biggest changes we’ve seen this month have been in the pool and in his jumperoo. We’ve had a few swimming lessons now and he’s fearless in the water – unlike me. In the last session we learned a new ‘trick’ – to grab hold of him by the hands, swing him round behind me to put him on my back and jump around the pool. I know, that sounds ridiculous, right? But Luke was there to take some photos and he seemed to not hate it, so that’s all that matters. He wasn’t feeling well enough to get in the pool with him so hopefully they’ll get their first swim together at the end of next month when Luke has another week off.
And the jumperoo is worth every penny – although we didn’t pay full price, thank god. A friend of mine was selling hers secondhand, so it only cost £35. The first time Jenson went in he was on his tippy toes and now his feet are flat on the ground. It’s crazy how much he has grown in just a few weeks – and he now weighs 19 pounds 8 ounces. Apparently 6-9 months clothes only go up to 20 pounds so we’ll see how much longer he’s in these for. Anyways, back to the jumperoo. He bleddy loves it! And in the last few days he’s been properly jumping about and it’s so much fun to watch.

Last week was pretty rough and I was so grateful that it was during Luke’s two weeks’ holiday. Jenson has started teething, which obviously makes him grumpy, and it was timed with the clocks going back, meaning he was getting up earlier than usual, and a pretty nasty cold. Being so congested at night meant he woke up more than usual, which meant us in and out of bed a lot putting his dummy back in his mouth. And the bit about teething which no-one warns you about? Poo! So. Much. Poo. His usual cycle is once every four to six days but he was going four to seven times a day for two weeks! Needless to say, I became desensitized to dirty nappies and can handle them like a pro now. Except when he goes when he’s in the jumperoo and it gets all over his clothes. He doesn’t get upset when his nappy is full so you just have to wait for the smell to hit you. Unless you hear it first. It’s all fun and games!
Luke went back to work today after 15 days off in a row and it was great spending that much time with both of my boys for the first time since he was born. I could tell Jenson loved having his Daddy home more too and his face lights up when they play together. I swear, there’s nothing hotter than seeing the guy you love with the little person you made together. Swoon!

I can’t believe that this time next month we’ll be starting to wean him! We’ve already stocked up on spoons (in the shape of aeroplanes!), bowls and bibs and we got our highchair before he was even born, complete with splash mat. Because we’re going to try baby-led weaning, he’ll mostly be eating our food, so we’re not stocking up on too many purees. Because we’re waiting until the recommended six months, he should be alright starting on lumpy food. Wish us luck! Expect lots of messy photos next month.
