In case I didn’t mention it enough already, I turned 30 last week. To celebrate/commiserate, I took the week off work and ended up with more plans in 11 days than I usually do in 11 months! For those of you who like photos of cocktails and stationery, here’s a look at how I spent that week and a half.
I didn’t really want to do anything ‘special’ to mark the occasion, especially as it’s the most expensive time of year. On top of Christmas, the few weeks either side of Christmas we have my birthday, two aunts’, my gran’s, Luke’s mum’s, my brother’s, my mum’s, a friend’s, plus there are the Christmas dos with work and the like. Instead, I decided to have a few quiet drinks with friends the night before to wave goodbye to my twenties. And it was bleddy lovely. Happy Hour at The Cornish Barn is awesome – who doesn’t love cheap cocktails?
As a blogger, I can’t not share the typical #blessed present photos, so here’s a peek at some of my favourite cards and my lovely birthday treats.
I am genuinely so freaking lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life. And they know me so well. My presents consisted of books, booze, smellies and stationery. I had to grab a few shots of the pretty paper too. I almost didn’t want to tear into them.
NGL, I’ve already scoffed the mini Prosecco and truffles. I couldn’t be arsed to go down from the office for a glass so I swigged it from the bottle. Classy AF me!
I’m glad I’ve got so many smellies as I’m under doctor’s orders to have lots of long soaks after my surgery in the new year. Not so sure the water bill will appreciate it though…
I swear these butterscotch biscuits rival the McVities Thins as my new favourite biscuit. And I was so surprised to open this beautiful Matilda mug. I love the new Roald Dahl mugs and Matilda is a long-time fave.
Speaking of books, Luke got me Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, Ready Player One and an actual Death Note! The geeks amongst you will know how epic this is. With great power comes great responsibility and all that. Don’t mess with me!
My stationery collection received a substantial boost. So much pretty! I love the metallic edging on the Girl Boss notebook and Happiness Journal and the pen is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
The mini diary is stunning and peppered with hilarious quotes. I especially love it because it’s from a friend who I’ve spouted many of these lines to before, so it’ll remind me of her when I use it.
How cute is this light? It’ll be popping up in many a flatlay.
I was also treated to some spending money. I had my surgical referral the day after my birthday so mum and I made a day of it and hit the shops in Truro. Well, mainly Primark. I picked up this adorable Beauty and the Beast jumper (which mum convinced me I wasn’t too old for) and matching slippers. When we got back my dad took us out for dinner so an otherwise lousy day at the hospital was actually really lovely.
I also gifted myself this rose gold watch I spotted in the Black Friday sale at Ollie and Nic. I’d had my eye on it as a potential Christmas present and had to get it when I saw it was reduced.
What I really wanted to do on my actual birthday was go to Mermaid Alley for a unicorn freakshake but they’re shut on Mondays! Luckily I had some time over the weekend and my friend treated me to a shake and some food. I swear these fries were the best I’ve ever had – loaded with maple bacon, apple slaw and wedges of brie. I’ll definitely be going back, especially as they do glitter cocktails.
On top of all that, while I was off for the week I had my hair cut for the first time in nearly two years, got my eyes tested and picked up new glasses, upgraded my phone contract and had loads of family time. I also had a movie meal deal at my newly refurbished local cinema and it was so nice to do something that we did so regularly pre-Jenson. Pizza and a film is a typical date night for us and it was great to double date with my bestie and his fella.
Going back to work after 11 days off was hard – especially getting up at 6.30am. But in two more weeks I’ll be waving goodbye to the office again for an extended Christmas break of 18 whole days off! Not too shabby.
